The hadith: the most beloved deeds to Allah
سَدِّدُوا وَقَارِبُوا، وَاعْلَمُوا أَنْ لَنْ يُدْخِلَ أَحَدَكُمْ عَمَلُهُ الْجَنَّةَ، وَأَنَّ أَحَبَّ الأَعْمَالِ أَدْوَمُهَا إِلَى اللَّهِ، وَإِنْ قَلَّ
Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said, “Do good deeds properly, sincerely and moderately and know that your deeds will not make you enter Paradise, and that the most beloved deed to Allah is the most regular and constant even if it were little.”

What the Prophet ﷺ loved most
The Prophet ﷺ lived this himself. Abu Salih asked two of his wives about it:
أَيُّ الْعَمَلِ كَانَ أَحَبَّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم؟ قَالَتَا: مَا دِيمَ عَلَيْهِ، وَإِنْ قَلَّ
Abu Salih said: “I asked ‘A’isha and Umm Salama: ‘Which work was dearest to Allah’s Messenger ﷺ?’ They said: ‘That which a person perseveres in, even if the amount of work done is small.'”

Notice the answer. Not the longest prayer, not the biggest donation, but the deed a person keeps doing. A small deed done every day keeps the heart connected to Allah every day, and it adds up to far more over a lifetime than a few big efforts that fade.
Consistency in good deeds is also a sign of sincerity. When the excitement wears off and nobody is watching, the deed that continues is the one done for Allah.

Consistency also means not overloading ourselves. Once a woman was mentioned to the Prophet ﷺ for how much she prayed, and he said:
مَهْ، عَلَيْكُمْ بِمَا تُطِيقُونَ، فَوَاللَّهِ لاَ يَمَلُّ اللَّهُ حَتَّى تَمَلُّوا
“Do (good) deeds which are within your capacity (without being overtaxed), as Allah does not get tired (of giving rewards) but (surely) you will get tired.”

‘A’ishah added that the best deed in the sight of Allah is the one done regularly (Sahih al-Bukhari 43). A burst of worship that burns us out is not the goal; a steady habit we can carry for years is.
