Abu Bakr as-Siddiq asked a dua from Rasulullah

Abu Bakr as-Siddiq was Prophet Muhammad’s ( ﷺ ) closest friend. He taught Abu Bakr this dua asking for forgiveness from Allah SWT.

Abu Bakr as-Siddiq

Abu Bakr as-Siddiq was one of the great companions of Prophet Muhammad ( ﷺ ). They endured trials and tribulations together since the beginning of Islam.

He was given the title of as-Siddiq (the Truthful) because of him believing in the Prophet regarding the events of Israk Mikraj when others did not.

There is one dua that was given to Abu Bakr from Prophet Muhammad ( ﷺ ) that I would like to share. Lets see the accompanying hadiths below.

supplication

Dua taught to Abu Bakr as-Siddiq

Abu Bakr As-Siddiq said to the Prophet (ﷺ) “O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)! Teach me an invocation with which I may invoke Allah in my prayers.” The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Say: O Allah! I have wronged my soul very much (oppressed myself), and none forgives the sins but You; so please bestow Your Forgiveness upon me. No doubt, You are the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

From Abu Bakr As-Siddiq, may Allah (SWT) be pleased with them both, that he said to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): “Teach me a supplication that I may recite in my prayer.” He said: “Say: ‘Alahumma inni zalamtu nafsi zulman kathiran wa la yaghfirudhunub illa anta faghfirli maghfiratan min ‘indika warhamni innaka antal Ghafurur-Rahim (O Allah, verily I have wronged myself much and there is None who forgives sins except You. Grant me forgiveness from You and have mercy on me for You are the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.)'”

He said to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ), “Teach me a supplication to use in my prayer.” He (ﷺ) said: “Say: O Allah, I have greatly wronged myself, and no one forgives sins except You, so grant me forgiveness from You and have mercy on me, You are the Forgiving and the Merciful One.”

The dua and meaning from the hadith given to Abu Bakr as-Siddiq

Alahumma inni zalamtu nafsi zulman kathiran wa la yaghfirudhunub illa anta faghfirli maghfiratan min ‘indika warhamni innaka antal Ghafurur-Rahim

O Allah, verily I have wronged myself much and there is None who forgives sins except You. Grant me forgiveness from You and have mercy on me for You are the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

This is such a beautiful dua to ask for forgiveness from our Lord. Allah is the most forgiving to His slaves. We wrong ourselves whether willfully or not daily.

Other than reciting the Istighfar, we can ask for forgiveness through dua as well.

Conclusion about the dua given to Abu Bakr as-Siddiq

The dua above is such a good dua to recite whether in sujud or during supplication. The meaning humbles the reciter and acknowledges our own shortcomings. May Allah grant His forgiveness to you after reciting this dua.

As always, do share this piece of article out to all of your family and friends. Remember to memorize and add it to your daily supplications. May it be one of the long lasting good deeds that rewards us well. Here in this world and in the hereafter, InsyaAllah.
